The appearance is deep plum red with dense crimson and garnet hues on the rim and long, viscous legs coating the glass.
The bouquet is a complex array of ripe fruit combined with earthy herbs, spice and toasty oak. Cherries and plums are backed by anise mint and cedar with hints of coffee bean and fine dark chocolate.
The opening palate is intense with distinctive blackcurrant and cassis characters followed by a full-bodied rush of dark berry fruit followed by clean herbaceous herbs and finishing with hints of chocolate and licorice. The tannin, acid and alcohol balance delivers a long smooth finish with a lingering dry aftertaste.
Enjoy this intensely flavoured wine with a rare rib eye steak or continental smoked sausage. After dinner it’s ideal with a selection farmhouse cheeses, nuts and dried fruits.
This is a classic Barossa wine which will deliver excellent drinking over a decade of cellaring. From release it offers an intense flavour experience which will continue to develop and gain complexity as it matures in bottle. We recommend decanting before consuming.
