The appearance is deep and brooding with a vibrant crimson red colour and long legs coating the glass.
The bouquet is intense with lifted rose petal fragrance and anise spice behind blueberry and plum fruits. There’s pencil shavings and a graphite mineral character with a lively confectionary note.
The palate is full of dark cherry and ripe plum. It has nice chewy body with anise spice, violets and a gamey earthiness ahead of a warm, dry finish. There is a noticeable alcohol lift that enhances the smooth rich flavour and is supported by solid tannins giving texture and structure.
This wine is warm and friendly with a big robust heart and powerful structure. It makes a great match to prime Angus steak, slow roasted lamb and savory beef casseroles, without dominating the flavour. It has finesse and balance which brings out the best across a range of cuisine styles. Try it with Italian meatballs and pasta.
This is a fine Barossa GSM which will deliver excellent drinking over the next decade of cellaring. From release it offers an intense flavour experience which will continue to develop and gain complexity as it matures in bottle. We highly recommend decanting before consuming.
